Journal quilt March 2005. This is my attempt at painted fusible webbing. I painted Steam-a-seam with purple paint, fused it to white, and covered it with red organza. It's embelliahed with beads and fancy yarns. I'm not real happy with my results.

It took me a while to post this cause I kept using the wrong user name to sign in. As soon as I located the right post-it note taped to my monitor, I got right in.
Anyway, all these postcards have me hooked. They're great practice for free machine quilting and a great creative release and user-upper of fabric that I haven't been able to find a use for. Some are for donating to the ACS sale at the Houston show, some are for trade, some for actually sending to people and hopefully some for sale. One is for a prize for the best name for my yet to be named orange guardian angel doll. I already have a number of really great names and the choice will be difficult.
I've actually worn out my 3 year old Kenmore doing these and it's going to the sewing machine doctor this week. I dragged my 23 year old Kenmore 10 stitch in from the garage and cleaned it up and fed it some oil and it's already done it's first postcard! I have to admit I missed it. Maybe the new machine dying is an excuse to look for a brand new machine...

Well, here are a few more photos. That's the main purpose of my blog. I had to dig out the photos of my challenge work to submit entries to the Tenth Anniversary exhibit. The Praise quilt was used for it's intended purpose of hiding the electric band equipment for a funeral last weekend and was very successful. It hid everything except the 6' tall speakers, and most people who saw it from a distance thought it was a painting! Right now I'm making one more Funky fiber doll for my dentist called "Dr. Tooth Fairy Godmother" and working only on my journal quilts and a few traditional quilts for family and friends. That's after doing the textile crafts for 100 kids at Vacation Bible School! And teaching Liturgical Art at a Worship and Music conference at a church retreat center in Texas. How does all that count in the productivity survey? I'm not actually producing quilts...

My giant quilt is finally finished and hanging on its racks. I couldn't find wooden dowels that were longer than 4' and narrower than a closet pole, so I ended up using curtain rods to hang it. There are three sleeves that are 5' each and each sleeve has a 1/2" cafe curtain rod and a set of racks made up of a pole and stand with the curtain rod bracket mounted to it.
My advice for making a quilt this big is: don't. Make three smaller ones and hang them close together.

Long time no post

Well, it looks like I'm not going to be a frequent poster. I guess I mostly wanted this blog as a way to get my latest work out on the Internet. But I don't come up in a google search. Anyone know why that is? Aren't blogs legitimate sites?
In the meantime, I have been asked to be the resident Liturgical artist for a worship and music conference at a major Presbyterian retreat center. They want to use the big Praise God quilt, which is now actually finished. I just need my carpenter to finish the racks to hold the thing.
Sand Dune Cindy is my latest commission, price negotiated first. That may be my last for a while at $100 a piece!

This is my quilt for the "Straight and Narrow" challenge. It's still in progress.
It's supposed to be flowing water and the words say: "Praise God from whom all blessings flow". It was originally designed to hang in front of the band eauipment during the 9:30 church service(when they don't play.) Nobody liked looking at it. And moving it away for the contemporarary service at 11:00. But they are only going to let me use it for weddings and funerals. If it ever gets done, that is. I'm actually putting on the backing now. As soon as I have an exact measurement for the height, we'll figure out how to hang this on the frames we built.

Crisis is past

The crisis is past and I'm back on line with the right payment plan. My minister took the news of the doll's price very well and is paying $100 with a smile, on both of our faces. The woman who is waiting for me to make her doll is also well aware of the price, but we will discuss it before I make it.
I have added an email address where I can be contacted to my profile: one with a screen name to match the blogsite.
Many thanks again to everyone on the Quiltart list who have put in so much time and effort to help me and others in our endeavors (sp?). The encouragement and advice has been invaluable.

A New Crisis

Last night in the wee hours, I began to have trouble with my intenet connection. Turns out, they mixed up my payment plan and have been charging me $2.95 an hour while I thought I had unlimited access. So of course now I owe them $547 and my credit card said no, so they cut me off. I fixed it this morning, but it will take 2-3 business days to get the charges off my record so that I can reactivate. In the meantime contact me by making a omment and leaving your email, and I can answer from another computer in the house. Geez, just when it was getting intresting! Party Poopers!

To answer those of you who are asking for more details:

The Rev is 9" from the tip of her wing to the tip of her toe(?)
The red fabric is old patchwork from my stash,
the blue-green is hand painted scraps.
I probably have 25 "TV" hours of work on her,which means about 12 hours of real work and 13 hours watching TV.
I learned everything from books and magazines, or just figured it out for myself.

Since she is for a minister, the name just sort of came to me while I was editing her photos.
I'll look into that doll journal...(I love beibng published)

Somebody please help me find the URL to the photo of me that is posted as a regular photo. It is in picasa2, but it is different in Internet Explorer because I edited it from the original. I can't find what its URL is to add to my profile. Is there some other way to do it? Please help, I've tried the websites, but none of their instructions address my problem. Only positive comments please-I can't take much more tonight.

I've spent half my morning messing with my pictures and Picasa2 and burning backup CD's and trying to blog my photos and running smack into walls everytime I turned around. I finally had to write to Blogger people for help, so now I can stop messing with it long enough to let them answer me and solve my problem, and go have lunch. Maybe tomorow I'll have something worth looking at.
